Working as a Freelance Captioner with Rev.com – My experience

  1. Rev.com is a company that provides transcription, translation, and captioning services. Of course, with the help of freelancers work from home freelancers. I found out about Rev.com on the TikTok app. I was actually surprised that I could find such kind of contents on that app, but I am grateful that I have. I tried applying for the captioner test on January 2021. After three months, and after almost forgetting about it, I received their acceptance e-mail by April 2021. I didn’t think much about it because they were only paying cents per minute of video. Also, I was in no rush for a job.

My acceptance email:

And so I dove in. I started as a rookie at Rev. Job availability is limited and is always scarce when you are a rookie. I had to sit in front of my laptop just waiting for a new job to pop up. I had to work until 3:00AM just to finish a project and earn a substantial income. I started earning $20 on my first three days. After three days, I finally graduated into a Revver!

My promotion to Revver:

<img decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-87 size-full lazyload" src="http://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev2.png" alt="" width="1024" height="505" srcset="https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev2.png 1024w, https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev2-300x148.png 300w, https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev2-768x379.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" />

Being a Revver is like being an official part of the Rev Team. I now have access to all the projects available. I no longer had to compete for one project. I realized that I can be able to make $40 a day when I became a Revver. And then that turned to $60. By the end of the week, I was able to make approximately $300. It’s pretty low to some but it’s an office job’s equivalent pay rate when exchanged in Philippine currency. Even way higher. I didn’t thought that I could earn this much. You can see my payment proof here in my recent vlog:

My first four weeks with Rev:

<img decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-88 size-full lazyload" src="http://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev3.png" alt="" width="1024" height="518" srcset="https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev3.png 1024w, https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev3-300x152.png 300w, https://serendipitytheblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/rev3-768x389.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" />

Not only was I able to earn extra income, I also regained my self-worth. Being a full-time mom and housewife had a really huge impact on my mental well-being. My importance was measured on how much I can manage the household. In addition, my duty of taking care of my son and husband. All while being limited to pursue what I want for myself because of time constraints. Along with this, I was unable to splurge on the things that I want because I always had to ask my husband for permission. I was able to work while looking after my son by being a freelancer at Rev. More importantly, I was also able to make my own money. Finally, I can spend without feeling guilty or ashamed. This is because I know I earned it!

If you are interested, this is what you need to know. First, how to apply. Secondly, the things that you need to have before applying. Lastly,  what to expect after the application. Fortunately, I discussed everything in my recent vlog. You can watch it here for further information:

I am happy that I found Rev. Most importantly, that I found freelancing. It is still a job, and it’s not easy.
